The EMS Division maintains 6 ALS transports, 5 ALS engines, 2 ALS ladders, and one ALS Supervisor unit. Overall, each responding piece of apparatus is staffed by highly trained firefighter/paramedics and state of the art equipment. EMS personnel treat cardiac arrest, poisoning, drug overdoses, traffic accident injuries, gunshot wounds, trauma, childbirth deliveries, allergic relations, and numerous other medical emergencies. Continuing education is provided to firefighter/paramedics and EMT's through the EMS Division. EMS staff provide CPR classes and blood pressure screenings to the general public. In addition, presentations are given to high school students on the effects of alcohol on driving. Funding for the EMS Division is provided by the City of West Palm Beach. Limited EMS grant funding is provided through the State of Florida and Palm Beach County. In addition, costs are partially offset through transport fees from patients transported by EMS. . |
